How to respond to peer review with confidence

The cover letter sets the tone for everything that follows. Editors often read it before anything else — including your reviewers' comments. Three sentences are usually enough.

Structure your response#

Lead with the changes you made. Then address each comment in turn. Some comments fall outside the scope of this paper — agree the suggestion is valuable, scope it as future work, and add a sentence to the limitations section so the reviewer sees their imprint in the final manuscript.
